Amazon holds talks over Premier League UK TV rights: Ben Rumsby at The Telegraph reports that Amazon has held talks over the UK rights to the Premier League ahead of next month’s auction.  Amazon has been consulting industry experts about the practicalities of adding top-flight English football to its fledgling portfolio of live sport.  While Amazon itself refused to confirm or deny whether it was exploring bidding for the UK rights for the Premier League for the three years between 2019-22. Amazon’s smart mirror patent idea will dress you in virtual clothes: Gerald Lynch at Tech Radar reports that after launching the Amazon Echo Look camera, which took photos of a user before offering fashion advice, a new patent has been uncovered which shows Amazon considering a similar concept within a smart, mixed-reality mirror. It describes a mirror equipped with cameras, projectors and reflective and transmissive display panels to mix the experience of a regular mirror with one capable of augmented reality overlays. Amazon’s Alexa may eventually serve up ads: Jordan Crook at Tech Crunch reports that according to a report from CNBC, Amazon is in talks with brands and advertisers to include ads on the Echo through via Alexa. The report says that Amazon is discussing these opportunities with Procter & Gamble and Clorox. Just as ads found their way to the newspaper, the radio, the television, the internet, and even to our inbox and inside our apps, it only makes sense for advertisers to follow us to the next frontier of voice-powered AI.
