Amazon will start penalizing sellers who ship unsafe packages to its warehouses, like leaky chemicals and unmarked aerosols: Eugene Kim at CNBC reports that Amazon Amazon is making third-party sellers more responsible about meeting package safety standards when they send inventory to be stored and shipped by Amazon. Fake reviews for weight-loss pills on Amazon net firm $12.8m fine from US regulator: Sky News reports that a company which sold what it claimed were weight-loss pills using fake reviews on Amazon has been given a suspended $12.8m fine by US regulators. It is the first time that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has made a judgement against a company for hiring a marketing company to write fake reviews of its products on the online retail giant. Continue reading…

Amazon is abandoning an entire 30-floor skyscraper in Seattle it had planned to move into as it follows through on a year-old threat: Dennis Green at Business Insider reports that Seattle’s Rainier Square will no longer be occupied by Amazon. The company has nixed its plans to move into the 30-floor, 722,000-square-foot building, the company confirmed in a statement to Business Insider on Wednesday. Amazon launches home shopping channel with Amazon Live: Richard Meldner at eSellerCafe reports that Amazon is entering the realm of home shopping channels with live streams called Amazon Live and a new app called Amazon Live Creator. Amazon Live Creator is targeted at smaller brands to produce live programming from a mobile device to showcase their products and answer questions from viewers. Currently, the app is only available for IOS devices. Also, sellers (or presenters) must be in the US and registered in the Amazon Brand Registry. Continue reading…

Amazon Go to launch a cashier-less store in London: Sash Fedorenko at Tamebay reports that Amazon Go stores are allegedly set to launch their cashier-less convenience shop concept in London. The move would mark the company’s first expansion of the partially-automated concept outside of their US base. The news follows reports in October 2018 that marketplace had reportedly looked at picking the store’s site at Oxford Circus. The marketplace had been looking for a location between 4,000 sq ft and 5,000 sq ft for their first Amazon Go UK store. Continue reading…
