Amazon plans to launch broadband service in UK: Cara McGoogan at The Telegraph reports that according to reports, Amazon is considering the addition of broadband to its ever-growing lsit of products available on its premium subscription service. The ecommerce company is considering plans to become an internet service provider in Europe. Offering its Prime film and TV streaming along with broadband would create a competitive offer that could rival the likes of Virgin and Sky in the UK. Continue reading…

Amazon launches all-new Prime photos experience with family vault: Amazon this week introduced new features to the Prime Photos service in the US. Prime members can now invite up to five family members or friends to join their Family Vault, which includes access to Prime Photos benefits including unlimited storage of photos, plus an additional 5 GB for videos and other files.

eBay continues shift to “Amazon-esque” business: Katie Roof at TechCrunch reports on eBay’s third-quarter earnings. The company brought in revenue of $2.22 billion, an increase of 6% year-on-year. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 45 cents, slightly above the analyst consensus of 44 cents. Adjusted net income was also down from the same period in the year before, as sales and marketing and other costs increased. While its financials were up, the stock fell more than 7% in early after-hours trading. Continue reading…

Netflix and Amazon are spending a truckload on TV programming: Jeff Dunn at Business Insider UK reports that online entertainment platforms Netflix and Amazon are now spending more on programmes than traditional television networks. Analysts said the two streaming giants spent $7.5 billion (6.6 billion euros) last year on their own series and shows—far more than big players such as the BBC, HBO and CBS. Continue reading…

Facebook ramps up ecommerce offerings: Stephanie Condon at ZDNet reports that businesses can now use their Facebook pages to sell goods and services directly to customers,  thanks to new integrations with ecommerce platforms like Delivery.com. With an enhanced “call to action” button on its page, a business can integrate with a variety of service providers they’re already doing business with. Continue reading…
