How Amazon Prime is crushing the competition: Brad Tuttle at TIME reports that Amazon now has 54 million Prime members in the US, with 1 in 5 Americans subscribed to the service. According to a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), 47% of the people who shop at Amazon are Prime members. The astonishing growth of Prime is a win-win situation for the ecommerce giant. Amazon benefits doubly with Prime because as it collects annual subscription fees and subscribers tend to spend a greater amount of money with Amazon compared to non-members. Continue reading…

Amazon rebuffs idea of partnering with PayPal: Ben Fox Rubin at CNET reports that Amazon users are unlikely to be seeing Paypal on the site in the near future. Amazon Payments vice-president, Patrick Gauthier said, “It’s quite simple, Amazon starts with the customer. If our customers were asking for it, it would have been on Amazon already. Why make the experience more complicated than it needs to be?” Since eBay announced in late 2014 that it was splitting from PayPal, there’s been talk that PayPal could strike a partnership with Amazon. Amazon buys Sundance comedy Wiener-Dog from Todd Solondz: Lizzie Plaugic at The Verge reports that Amazon and Netflix have been the most aggressive buyers at this year’s Sundance Festival. So far, Amazon has purchased five films with Netflix trailing close behind with three film purchases. Amazon have acquired the Todd Solondz directed comedy Weiner-Dog in a seven figure deal as well as shelling out $10m for indie drama Manchester by the Sea. Continue reading…

Amazon roll out Prime Now to Liverpool: Chris Dawson at Tamebay reports that Liverpool, Birkenhead, Warrington and Wigan are the latest areas to be added to the areas serviced by Amazon Prime Now. Liverpool users can buy from more than 15,000 items and then choose a delivery within one hour of ordering for £6.99, or free delivery within a choice of two-hour, same-day delivery slots between 8am and midnight, seven days a week.
